Customer Review: A great introduction to fantasy role-playing
/This review contains no plot-spoilers/. I'm writing this little review for those who have heard little or nothing about the game, perhaps even a parent of a potential player. Some things you quickly need to know... This is a final and best version of one of the best single-player fantasy games ever made for the PC. (1) It's set in a very beautiful and strange game-world, yet the graphics are five years old... but there are plenty of 'mods' (free fan-made plugins) out there that can make the game look and play far better. The game's fans have spent the last five years fixing and improving the game. Yet to research, choose and apply those 'mods' takes a few hours, and some skill with using a PC. It's a project in itself, but it's worth it. (2) You may not like the game initially, because role-playing is not to everyone's taste and can be a skill that takes some nurturing. The game is so huge you can play the first bits of the main quest for 15 hours - and still just be scratching the surface of a tiny bit of the massive free-form game-world. This is no "run and gun, down narrow tracks" game you can finish off in 10 hours. At 150 hours, you'll be qualified to make a judgement on it. (3) You have to use your imagination at many points, but you get plenty of stimulus to do so. You also need to 'suspend your disbelief' over some of the clunky animations, in places. This is a world that's strange, almost perfectly realised in terms of plot and atmosphere, and will make you think. One of the main themes is slavery and colonisation. Disease is also prominent. But it will also make you laugh - it's far more quirky than its rather dumbed-down successor Oblivion. I feel it's quite suitable for an intelligent and thoughtful 12 year old. (4) The game 'adapts' itself to your play style due to the choices you make at the start. You can play equally well as a 'Conan'-type fighter, a 'Wizard'-like magician, or a stealthy sneaker. (5) There's a lot of reading involved in the game, both dialogue and in books and scrolls. And a lot of strange names. This is not a game for non-readers. (6) Yes, the game will run fine on Windows Vista (fully-patched, SP2), just make sure you update to the latest Nvidia graphics-card drivers. The game has problems with ATI graphics cards. Yes, you can even run it in widescreen - as high as 1920 x 1200 pixels, using the free MGE plugin.

Every year there's a short list of hot toys that prove to be the most popular Christmas gifts for kids. And 2008, of course, is no different. One of this year's must buy Christmas toys is definitely going to be Bakugan battle brawlers, so here's a quick guide for parents on what Bakugan is all about.

What is Bakugan

Bakugan is similar to Pokemon in that it isn't just about the toys or the game. Bakugan Battle Brawlers is also a Japanese anime series in which the main characters, a group of youngsters, play the Bakugan strategy game in order to save the earth. It now airs in a variety of countries, including on the Cartoon Network in the US. The toys and the tv series were developed together, so one supports the other.

The Bakugan Battle Brawlers Game

Much how a trading card game works, Bakugan is a strategy game. It involves both cards (made of metal) and marbles. The marbles morph into monsters and such, i.e. dragons and things of that nature. The transformation occurs as the marble lands on the metal cards, which is the large part of the appeal of these toys. They are fun!

After each player has rolled their Bakugan (the marble), then battle commences. Battle consists of adding up the values on the Bakugan and the cards and the winner takes both of the Bakugans and the cards. The game continues until there aren't any cards left.

The Bakugan Toys

The main items necessary to play Bakugan are the cards and the marbles that turn into creatures. Bakugan starter packs are a fairly inexpensive entry item into the series of toys, at about $15 each. Fair warning though, much like Pokemon and Webkinz, don't expect your kids to be happy with just one set. Like trading game cards, the toys are designed to be collectible. You can expect your house to be overrun soon enough!

In addition to the starter packs and Battle Brawler Battle packs, there are also accessory items such as a launcher and a battle arena (i.e. game board) that can be bought too. There are also other tie-in items such as books, lunch bags, calendars and eventually there should be a videogame available in the US for the Nintendo DS.

Game Modes

Race Event
In a Race Event being on the grid and waiting for the race to start can be just a few clicks away, or it can be a complete racing experience featuring all sessions and options of a real life race weekend. The player will be able to select which settings and sessions to use, to customize the race weekend to his/her liking.

Time Attack
Time attack is a multiplayer mode being played on one PC and should be thought of as a social game mode. The player can compete against friends sharing one PC, by setting lap times and chasing the ghost car of his/her friends, or aim for the top spot on the RACE 07 leader boards. Players can check their positions on the official leader boards after or even during a session.

Practice Mode
If the player want to improve lap times or experiment with car setups? Then practice mode is the ideal choice, in practice mode there are no restrictions and sessions can be arranged just as the player likes them.

Championship mode
Championship mode will give the player the chance to experience the 2006 or 2007 WTCC championship. The player will go through the full championship experience, visiting all the tracks of the 2006 or 2007 seasons, experiencing the unique 2-race format of the WTCC including the reverse grid for the second race, being penalized with penalty weights when performing well and much more.

Custom Championship
With Custom Championship we want to offer the players an easy to use configuration screen for setting up their own championships. This means the player chooses what car to use and then what track(s) to use, when these choices have been made the game will from these choices generate a new championship file.

In short the player can create a championship using all existing tracks in the game or as little as two when creating a custom championship. The choice of using a one or two race format is available to the player when setting up a custom championship. The choice of enabling or disabling the weight penalty is available to the player when setting up a custom championship.

Multiplayer
RACE07 features support for 24 opponents in multiplayer mode. These can be either players or AI opponents, or a mix of both. The option of having AI opponents (or Ôbots') makes sure that even with a small group of players you can still have a full grid of cars.

Multiplayer options are included for both online and LAN. Players can serve and play, hosting the game from their own computer and allowing other players to join or setup a dedicated server, the dedicated server application is included with the game.

The Tracks of Race 07
RACE 07 has received a significant boost in the track department. In total it features 32 tracks including several variations and alternate track layouts. It will feature purpose built legendary racetracks such as Monza, Imola, Zandvoort and Brands Hatch, but also narrow and intense city environments on circuits such as Pau, Porto, Macau and the unique Vara Raceway.

Like the cars, all factors are in place to give the customer the full racing experience on tracks that are closely modeled after their real-life examples. An approximate increase of 100% in details ( polygons ) have been added to the tracks in RACE 07 compared with all earlier SimBin titles, mainly focusing on adding more atmosphere and life to the tracks and pitlanes, with more trackside objects and more crowds and spectators.

I purchased Race 07 before I purchased GTR 2. I was and still am pleased with Race 07. GTR 2 is an improvement, but since Race 07 has different cars, both products are good to have. The interface of GTR 2 is refined over Race 07. Race 07 is a very good simulation game. And by the way, in my opinion you should not waste your money and more importantly, your time, on GRID. GRID is most certainly not worthy of my time and money. I have reviewed it with some detail.

Customer Review: A Suprisingly Good Game!
A Surprisingly Good Game! I tend to find myself unable to stay away from games that were originally big blockbuster movies. Games like Catwoman, Batman Begins, Spiderman, etc. The Bee Movie game is a direct tie-in with the animated movie. It was only fourteen bucks on Amazon, so i just couldn't help but feel pulled into this impulse purchase. I am not gonna go into specifics of the game. But if you enjoy Mario & Crash Bandicoot games, this will be right up your alley. The graphics and visuals of the game are excellent and you feel immersed in the world of Barry Benson (Jerry Seinfeld). You literally feel transported into his world. Pick this up & add it to your library as it's a great title to have.

Okay, so that's a stupid question. Or at least it may initially sound like one. In terms of publication and distribution, and their dependency on advertisements, comics are clearly magazines by definition. Which would then make graphic novels compiled magazines... which they are clearly (I hope) not.

But the fact is that "comic book" is a dirty term in the art world. And though the work of people such as Daniel Clowes, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and too many other fine writers to mention, has done much to remedy this, the comic is still looked upon with disdain. Libraries and schools live in fear of the day that little Timmy is lured in by the colourful pictures of his first graphic novel, and vows never to read another novel again. Which is stupid, of course; the majority of those who read graphic novels are also literature lovers.

And then there are the critics. Bookworms and concerned parents feared that their beloved tomes would become obsolete with the dawn of television. Only almost a century after its conception was cinema embraced as a valuable art form. The videogames, a medium still in its infancy, is currently being subjected to the same media prejudice that faced the feel good movies of the 1920s. But whereas devotees and aficionados are willing to discuss the videogame medium, and argue as to whether it qualifies as high art, the same question is rarely focused on comics. This could be that, since the comic medium's maturity in the late sixties through to the mid-eighties, comics have been critically appreciated in a new, if not particularly bright, light.

Weary media lecturers will bore their students about the potential of "sequential art," but these academics rarely raise interest in anything other than the obvious award-winning "worthy" choices - Maus, Persepolis and the works of Scott McCloud, Harvey Pekar and Robert Crumb. All great starting points, of course, but any who dares to mention superhero books in such lessons will likely receive only scornful glares. Perhaps this is because comics, for the most part, share the shelves with that most unfairly treated of literary genres: Science Fiction and Fantasy. Works such as The Sandman, Watchmen, Strangers in Paradise and Cerebus the Aardvark are too often viewed as little more than fantastical nonsense for preoccupied adolescents. And as long as their creators continue to be imaginative and original, striving to push the boundaries of contemporary fiction, this is unlikely to change.

A friend told me not long ago that he'd read everything ever written by Alan Moore, but refused to read a graphic novel by any other author. I find it baffling that one could get so much enjoyment from the comic book medium yet have no desire to take that interest further. I wanted to tell him to read something else. Write him a list of recommendations, even.

I bought this game for an ungrateful ex-boyfriend of mine. I bought it because I thought the movie was mesmerizing for an ADHD person like me. would have liked to have tried the game. I can't rate this game honestly as he never took the wrapper off of it. Sorry, I guess I should have bought him God of War II which was $45 more...which he still would have been ungrateful for. First off, Go Microsoft! Thanks for creating such a wicked cool console system! It's sleek, it's cool, it's neat, and it's awesome! Big thank you to Bill Gates! Anyway, the Xbox 360 beats the PS3 and Wii hands down. It has a large and impressive array of games that can be played on it, it has the best online service of any next-gen console currently out there, and it just looks so cool! I remember taking the packaging off and smelling the aroma of new electronics! While that doesn't smell real good, that smell always reminds me nowadays of when I first got my Xbox 360. The Arcade verison replaced the Core version that the 360 launched with and it now comes with a free bonus game, although it didn't when I got mine last year. It has a 256MB memory card, which is enough if you're not planning on having tons of music, games, and movies on your 360. If you're using it just for games, it'll be fine. If not, you may want to buy more memory or a hard drive. The 360 has loads of really cool games, such as my favorites: The Bourne Conspiracy, the three current-gen Tomb Raiders, GRAW 1 and 2, and a few others. The console can play all these and more and can even play some original Xbox games, although you have to download some sort of program from the Internet and have a hard drive to play those games. Even so, the Xbox 360 is a masterful gaming console and should be the undispusted champion.

Sometimes it is fun to have the most durable gaming system in the book! The Original Game Boy was designed in 1989 and was released with many well known titles one being Super Mario Land. I really like this system as it is MUCH different than all of the other Nintendo Game Boy systems and it is so durable that if you threw it off the empire state building and landed on your cats back it would still work perfectly. Don't buy a Nintendo DS Lite that you have to pay $35.00 for a game that is not even the size of your eye ball, get something cheap, durable, and has a big library of games. I would also get the gray Nintendo Game Boy battery pack with the cord because then you don't have to use 4 AA batteries, however with batteries the Original Game Boy can last about 30 hours with only 4 AA batteries. I have owned the original Nintendo Game boy for a long time. I still play Super Mario Land and all the classics. It is a great system for play or a collectors item!

Customer Review: Great game, but Catholic.
This game is very fun to play. My daughter and I play it quite a bit. It does have more of a game show appeal to it than anything else. The trivia questions can be adjusted from easy to hard. The mini games can be adjusted too, so it is a great game for all ages. The only problem I found with it is the one mini game where you put the 10 commandments in order. They have the third commandment as the Sabbath commandment, and the last two commandments, the "thou shalt not covet commandment", split into two. In other words they employ the Catholic version of the ten commandments. That was a little dissappointing, me being a protestant. But thats only in one of the games, and it's really not a big deal. The game is a really awesome family game.

Well this is a interesting game. I like that the game talks about the bible but in the same point the game reminds me of the game show The Price Is Right. Just play the game you'll see what I mean. But over all good game. Get this game if you want to learn about the bible there's some pretty interesting stuff in this game.

Comic book and graphic novel criticism is rarely found outside of niche publications such as Wizard, or the many fan-driven sites that litter the web. Occasionally a mainstream newspaper will publish an article on the medium as a whole, or offer a retrospective on an under appreciated author, usually Alan Moore; but for the most part it is rare to come across comic reviews in any shape or form. I used to believe that this was simply down to media prejudice - and largely it probably is - but when I decided to dedicate my precious spare time to the joys of graphic novel criticism, I soon learnt that the "funny books" were far from the easiest medium to offer an objective evaluation of.

In the era of Stan Lee, comic plots rarely extended beyond an issue. The Fantastic Four would thwart Doctor Doom's plans for world domination and still be home in time to laugh at the Thing's working class idiosyncrasies. While this limited the writers somewhat, it did allow for episodic adventures that were entirely self-contained. Casual readers could pick up the occasional issue and never be far behind the soap opera antics of their favourite characters. Of course, pre-80s comics were considered an enjoyable but disposable pastime. Most were binned after being read, and forgotten soon after.

Naturally, things have changed. Sequential art is now accepted as an art form, though whether such an acceptance entails any benefits is another matter altogether. The contemporary comic book has become a far slower affair, with the sort of storyline that would have filled a single issue back in the sixties now stretched across several. While this makes for far superior graphic novel narratives, it does alienate the casual reader, and leaves the regular collector dangling on tenterhooks before the serial has had time to resume. More importantly, this approach to serial storytelling has rendered the reviewing of individuals comic issues a little pointless - who reviews the first half of a film, or a television drama only up to the first commercial break?

Of course, we could leave the reviews until our favourite series are collected in trade paperback format, but this approach is equally problematic. Many series have reached double digit number of volumes. Should each volume of The Sandman, The Walking Dead, or Y: The Last Man be reviewed individually, or should the series be critiqued as a whole? If comic book critics were to wait until a series had concluded before laying down their position, then very few new books would get the endorsement that quality appraisal offers.

Of course, there are no answers here. The comic medium will continue to suffer the prejudice of literary circles, and isolate those with only a passing interest. But I love the fact that any individual can have his say on the internet, and would rather be guided by the opinions of another comic enthusiast than the tepid, uninspired drivel from a mainstream film or videogame magazine that has temporarily jumped aboard the superhero zeitgeist. With or without mainstream attention, the comic book appears to be stuck comfortably in its niche. Is that such a bad thing?
